Daddy's Strength
When I was around twelve, my father, brother and I were clearing a field of rocks, fencing material and weeds so the ponies could feed on the new grass. It was hot and dusty work but I didn't mind work for the ponies.
I felt something like a fly or a bug hit my head by my eye. I tried to brush it away and it scratched my hand. I started to get scared and let a scream escape from my chest. My father turned the mower off and ran to my side. We both tried to pull the piece of wire lodged in my skull but it wouldn't budge. Without a word, Daddy scooped me up in his arms and ran towards the fence. I started to get down so we could climb over the fence but Daddy held tight and jumped the fence with me still in his arms.
Once we were in the truck headed to the hospital I started to calm down. This is where I began to see my Dad as a mighty, in-control man. John Wayne couldn't hold a candle to him in my eyes. At the hospital, several uniformed people started moving quickly. The doctor put a cloth over my face with a hole to give him room to work on the wire.
I saw blood spatters and blood pooling but it didn't hurt so I didn't worry. The doctor was using a saw and then a chisel around the wire. Finally the wire came loose and Daddy seemed relieved. The doctor removed the cloth and washed the rest of my face. I looked at Daddy and he had streaks where he had cried. From there on he was my #1 hero, although I still liked John Wayne an awful lot.
There were two points I wanted to make: parents can summon amazing strength when needed, and when a mower is being used there should be no children, around the area. That piece of wire was half an inch long and went into my skull by my eye brow 1/8" in either direction and you wouldn't be reading any of this this.

My Paw-Paw - William Jackson Saulmon
My Granddad, William Jackson Saulmon was known very well as a great person. People called him Jack. He was born on November 11, 1931. He had two sons and a step son, Anthony Edgar Saulmon, William Danny Saulmon, and Robert Dean Willis. He also had a daughter, Jackie Saulmon Ramirez. He had a wife named Jean Willis Saulmon. He had eleven grandkids, that admired him greatly. He had nine great grandkids. As of today, November 23, 2009 he had five cats, Ruffy, Fluffy, Bob, Ugly, and Black Cat.
Paw-Paw was a very interesting person. He always carried a silver dollar in his billfold, so he is never broke. He loved to play cards and talk about the old days with friends. He also loved to be outside even if outside is in a shed. He would give and give until he had nothing left. He was native to the mountains of North Carolina, but fell in love with Down East, NC. He loved going fishing with friends and family. He was stubborn, but that runs in the family. He would always remind you that the harder you work in school the easier life will be. When it comes to pig pickings he was a fan. He was also a fan of NASCAR. His favorite driver was Tony Stewart. In the winter, he always had a fire going in the shop, his place where he goes to get out of the house.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean Willis Saulmon, his father and mother, Ed and Alice Saulmon, and a brother, Donald Saulmon.
Jack's first wife and mother of his three children, Margaret Jean Cornett (Saulmon) Mangum preceded him in death on October 31, 1996.
Rev. Jimmy Mercer officiated the funeral.
