(Lincoln Co Health death card); "William Leonard Childs of Davenport died June 19, 1989 in Davenport's Lincoln Hospital. He was 76. Mr Childs was born July 1, 1912 in Reardan to Bill and Ruth Childs. He graduated from Reardan High School May 22, 1929. He served in the US Army's Battery ‘D' 55th Coast Artillery from Sept 1931 to 1935 and was stationed at Fort Ruger in Honolulu, Hawaii. He married Edith Haruye Mizumoto in Honolulu on Sept 17, 1934. The couple returned to Davenport in July 1935. Mr Childs farmed with his father. He took over the farm in 1937 and continued to farm until his retirement in 1977. The couple continued to reside at the farm. Mr Childs was a member of the Davenport Gun Club, the National Rifle Association and was a certified instructor of the Hunter Safety Education Program. He was a member of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, a 55-year member of the Mondovi Grange, and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Edith, of the home; four children, Kay Sewell of Everett, Sandra Higgins, Ron Childs and Linda Dilley, all of Spokane; 9 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be held today, June 22, at 11 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, Davenport. Pastor David Daugs will officiate. Burial will follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery, Reardan.
