* James Alexander was born in Huntsville, Alabama and died at Hennepin, IL, May 25, 1890, aged about 60 years. He was born and reared in slavery. At the opening of the civil war, he ran away and joined the Union Army. He came north with John Shepherd and settled in Hennepin, where he has since resided. He united in marriage with Miss Mary E. Logan on January 8, 1867. Of this union, 5 children were born, 4 living. He was one of seven brothers, all who remained in the south. The funeral was held at the Congregational church on Friday afternoon with interment in the Riverside cemetery. - Hennepin Herald, May 23, 1899 (Per HJ (#46937296)
