Walter S. Kissel Jr., 61, of 289 Belden Road, Hamden, passed away on Thursday (October 29, 2009) at his home.


Born in Southington on October 14, 1948, the son of the late Walter Sr. and Irene (Kania) Kissel.


He had graduated from Wilcox Technical School and was employed by FIP Construction in Cheshire for thirty-six years. Walter was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and had received a purple heart while in combat in Vietnam. He enjoyed taking care of his family he was always fixing and building things around the house for them. He was an avid fisherman, he loved his Harley and was a skilled woodworker and loved to cook.


He is survived by two daughters, Heather Kissel of Hamden, Dawn and husband Mike Lamothe of Bristol; three grandchildren, Derek Mathews, David Mancini Jr. and Isabella Lamothe; a great-grandson Gavin Mancini. He was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Kissel.


The funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street.
Burial with Full Military Honors accorded will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bristol.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
