Minnie Blake was the daughter of Kennedy Hunter Blake and Sarah Sagora "Sallie" Campbell, both originally from South Carolina. The family lived for a short time in Whitfield Co., Georgia before moving to Fannin Co., Texas in 1871.

Minnie was born in Texas in 1877, most likely in Fannin Co. She was living with her family in Fannin Co. on the 1880 and 1900 censuses.

She married William Clark Burton in about 1904.

The couple moved to Choctaw Co., Oklahoma where they appeared on the 1910 and 1920 censuses. They had six known children, all born in Oklahoma: Winnie, Vista, Helen, Evelyn, Trudie and William C., Jr.

The family later moved to Union Co., New Mexico where they appeared on the 1930 census.
