FRANKLIN CAMP DEAD.
Was a Respected Citizen of DeKalb County for Fifty-Eight Years.
Franklin Camp, one of the pioneers of DeKalb County, for 58 years, a respected citizen of Mayfield and Sycamore, died at his home on West DeKalb Avenue, in this city, at about 5 o'clock on Monday evening, August 21. His death was caused by a gradual wasting of the system due to his advanced years. Franklin Camp was a son of David Camp, and was born in Hanover, N.H., on February 20, 1824, having therefore, reached the advanced age of 81 years 6 months. After he became of legal age, in 1847, Mr. Camp came alone to DeKalb County and engaged in farming in Mayfield Township. Here he made his home until 16 years ago when we removed to Sycamore, where he had since resided. Franklin Camp and Eliza B. Dow were married in Mayfield on January 1, 1848. To them were born five children - Laura Esther, born June 4, 1850, now the wife of O.D. Joiner, of Sycamore; Charles Franklin, born January 7, 1853 a resident of DeKalb; Lucy Maria, born November 4, 1854, now Mrs. E.J. Drake, of Sycamore; Lidia Elvira, born May 31, 1856, now Mrs. D.P. Owens, of Beatrice, Neb., and Cora Eliza, born June 2, 1862, now Mrs. C.E. Willard, of Sycamore.
The wife and mother Eliza Dow Camp, departed this life on December 24, 1884.
Franklin Camp was married on December 29, 1887, to a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Brundsge-Troop, who was born in Canada in April 1843, and who survives him.
Mr. Camp was one of the most respected residents of this vicinity where he had made his home for many years.
Kindly, conscientious in all his relations, he was a model husband, father and neighbor. For over 40 years he was a faithful member of the Baptist church, of which he was first chosen deacon in 1862, and he was a faithful attendant upon the services of this church at a time when feeble health would have caused many to neglect such duties.
The community mourns with the afflicted family over his death. The funeral services will be held at the home at 2:30 and at the Baptist church at 3 o'clock this Wednesday afternoon, and will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.H. Ballentine. The interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
