HER 82nd BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY
"Grandma" Wilson Given a Surprise by Presbyterian Ladies Yesterday.
Last Wednesday the Ladies Working Society of the First Presbyterian Church spent the day at the church quilting comforts, and during the afternoon "Grandma" Wilson, who is always a faithful participant in these working bees, chanced to remark that the next day would be her 82nd birthday anniversary. This becoming known it was quietly and speedily arranged to give the old lady a surprise.
Accordingly the members to the number of probably thirty assembled yesterday afternoon at the McMillan residence a few doors south and at four o'clock proceeded in a body to Mrs. Wilson's home. The surprise was complete and just as the greetings were ended, persons appointed for the purpose, entered carrying a handsome and comfortable rocking chair which was presented to the aged hostess by Mrs. T. K. Irwin whose remarks in conjunction therewith were very touching and appropriate. Mrs. Wilson was completely overcome with joy and emotion and could scarcely speak, but finally found the words to express her heartfelt appreciation of the thoughtfulness and kindly regard shown.
As she took her seat in the great chair Little Lois Keim stepped forward and crowned her with a pretty wreath which she had prepared for the occasion. "Blest be the Tie that Binds" was then sung, the entire company joining in the old song. Altogether the occasion was a most pleasant one to all concerned and will be long remembered with satisfaction.
