Wesley and Judy Brown's youngest child was Cleatus Adam Brown, born on December 13, 1920, in Arcanum, Twin Township, Darke County, Ohio. As was the common practice of the day, when he was eleven years old, Cleatus was taken from the Darke County Children's Home by Harry and Lucille Miller to help work on their farm, and they raised him as part of their family. In 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper and as a demolition engineer during World War II. At one point, Cleatus was believed dead when a plane crashed into his building. He woke up in the morgue but fortunately survived. He was discharged on August 4, 1945, and on February 25, 1946, he married Harry and Lucille's daughter, June Evelyn Miller, in Richmond, Indiana. He worked as a trucker and at the NCR factory. In December 1946, Cleatus and June had their first child, Joyce Annette, while living in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. A few years later, they moved to Pine Castle, Florida, with the Millers, where Cleatus helped them operate the B&M (Brown and Miller) Market and also delivered meat. Their second child, Janet, died at birth, and they decided to return to Dayton, Ohio, where their children Janice Kay, James Nelson, and John Wesley were born. Cleatus returned to work at NCR until it closed. In the early 1970's, the Browns moved to land in Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio, bringing with them their granddaughter Natalie whom they were raising. Cleatus worked at odd jobs around the county and was affectionately known as "Brownie" by all. No one thinks of him without remembering how much fun he was to have around!

C.A. "Brownie" Brown, 88, of Bellbrook, Ohio and formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday morning, October 6, 2009 at the Bellbrook Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Arcanum, son of the late Wesley and Judy (Conaway) Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Brown and sisters, Mabel Brown, Eva Hill, Etta Yoder, and Clara Shaw.
A veteran of the US Army, 161st Parachute Engineer Company and the 503rd Infantry Regimental Combat Team, "Brownie" had served during WWII in Southern Phillippines, Luzon and New Guinea. He was retired from NCR in Dayton and was well known for his service and handyman work.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, June E. (Miller) whom he married on February 25, 1946; children, Joyce A. Page of Hillsboro, Janice K. Qualls of Bellbook, James N. Brown of Washington Courthouse and John W. Brown of West Carrollton; 4 grandchildren, Natalie K. Herdman, William J. Briggs, Justin C. Brown and Joshua L. Brown; and great grandchildren, Sam Herdman, Ben Herdman, Ocyrus X. Brown, Ewon I. Brown and Steven Briggs.
Services with full military honors will be held Friday, October 9, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home , 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH. Burial will follow in the Ansonia Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 1 - 2 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Cross Roads Hospice, 8087 Washington Village Dr. Bldg A. Suite 120, Dayton, OH 45458.
