Charles W. Allen Sr., 91, of Athens, formerly of Springfield, died at 10:45 a.m. Friday at his residence.
He was born in Blue Mound on March 31, 1897, the son of James W. and Amanda A. Montgomery Allen. He married Sarah Blanche Lofton in Kansas City, Mo., in 1921. She died in 1986. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Julia Marie McArthur; three brothers; and three sisters.
Mr. Allen was a member of Palmyra Primitive Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer, and was formerly employed by the Springfield Art Association.
Surviving are two sons and five daughters; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.
Services: Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel. Burial: Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
