July 2018: The 1860 census shows that the parents of JA Cole (age 5) are JT Cole and ME Cole, both the correct age to be his parents. Also, the siblings listed on his FaG memorial match the children listen on this census.

Member Sharee Thornberry ([email protected]) has suggested that Seaborn Vandiver Cole and Marietta "Lucy" Wright are his parents. Please contact me if you have documentation to support this information.

Obituary in The Bienville Democrat June 14, 1934
On Tuesday night, June 5, 1934, at Sailes LA there passed to the Great Beyond the last member of a pioneer family of Bienville Parish and a leading citizen of the community in which he lived in the death of Mr. Joseph Augustus Cole.
“Uncle Gus” as he was lovingly known to his friends was born in Georgia 79 years ago and came to Louisiana with his mother and other members of the family while still a boy and was for sixty-five years a citizen of the community in which his death occurred. He was a progressive farmer for many years, but retired from active work several years ago, and since that time had conducted a little store and filling station on his home place on the Gibsland-Ringgold highway at Sailes. He was a member of the Cypress Springs church and, although for several years he had been unable to take an active part in the affairs of the church and community, he was always interested in every effort for the uplift of the church and community, both morally and spiritually, and the religious services broadcast over the radio were a great source of enjoyment to him during recent months.
Mr. Cole married Miss Mattie Lou Wilkerson on February 3, 1881, by whom he is survived with seven sons and three daughters, as follows: Mrs. W.H. Stewart and Mrs. J.F. Guice of Sailes; Mrs. H.A. Page of Bossier City; J.S., G.H, J.H., W.P., and D.E. Cole of Sailes; T.A. Cole of Jamestown; and A.L. Cole of Bossier City; also 35 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the Willilams Cemetery under the direction of the Dennis Funeral Home, with the Rev. J.C. Cox officiating.
