Mrs. Lucile DeReign, 91, of Caruthersville, died Jan. 19 at Pemiscot County Nursing Home. Born April 16, 1894 in Arrow Rock, Mo., she was the daughter of Frank Otis and Mina Ferguson Shepard. She attended school in Arrow Rock and spent one year at Columbia High School before entering University of Missouri-Columbia. She moved to Caruthersville in 1915. She was the widow of Morrell DeReign. She was active in church work. As chairman of the Board of Women's Work at the Presbyterian Church, U.S., she attended a worldwide conference in Brazil. She organized the Turberculosis Society in Pemiscot County in cooperation with Pemiscot County Health Department. She was a member of Who's Who in America. She was charter member of the Caruthersville Woman's Club and held all local, district and state office of the federation.
She is survived by one son, Morrell DeReign Jr. of Caruthersville; One daughter, Mrs. Mary D. Cook of Caruthersville; Five grandsons, Robert L. Cook of Silver Springs, Md., Oliver D. Cook of Mt. Airy, Md., David M. Cook of Columbia, James Alan DeReign of Caruthersville and Thomas M. DeReign of Sikeston; One granddaughter, Mrs. Sue Cooke of Baton Rouge, La.; And 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Paul Currie officiating, with burial in Little Prairie Cemetery, H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville in charge.
Pallbearers were Oliver D., Robert L., David M., Daniel P. and David M. Cook II and James A., Marc Alain and Thomas M DeReign.

"the plane of Capt. Lynn Shepard, brother of Mrs. DeReign, and his Nicaraguan co-pilot had been sighted and that it had crashed in the dense jungles 25 miles from Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua."...."searching parties had penetrated the jungles to the wreck of the plane and had found the bodies of the two occupants. This was confirmed in another message to Mrs. DeReign yesterday afternoon."
