James Wilson was a son of James Wilson, a Revolutionary War Captain, and Amelia "Milly" Burgess Wilson. He was born in Caswell County NC. In Livingston Co KY, he married Louisa M. Spell on September 7, 1924. Family Tradition has it that they had six children with only one of them living to reach adult age (William Henry Harrison Wilson.)
Family Tradition: James and his wife with the help of others built the Wilson dog-trot style log cabin near Lola KY. They completed the chimney in 1840. Records indicate that he was also a farmer and Road Surveyor, caring for a section of roads near his home on the Golconda to Salem Road in Livingston Co KY.

He gave permission as natural guardian for the marriage of Mary Adcock, his orphaned niece, to Rueben Barnett.
Throughout the years several orphaned relatives resided in his home.
