Jean L. Johnson, age 80 of Park River, ND passed away on Tuesday, September 01, 2009 at the Meritcare Hospital of Fargo, ND. Jean LaVonne Torkelson was born August 10, 1929 to G. Leonard and Helen (Groven) Torkelson. She grew up on a farm in rural Grafton attending country school and graduating from the Grafton High School in 1947. On October 9, 1948 Jean married Morris W. Johnson at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hoople, ND. During their 60 years of marriage they have lived in Grafton, Fargo, Grand Forks and Park River. They have wintered in Mesa, AZ for the past 20 years.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a kind loving person who was always concerned for the well being of others. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband Morris of Park River, ND; sons: Merle (Kris), Glyndon, MN; Jon (Trudee), Plano, TX; Scott (Shelly), Gatesville, TX; daughters: Joy (Terry) Eidem, Felton, MN; Mary (Wayne) Riendeau, Grand Forks, ND; Kris (Dan) Cartwright, Tempe, AZ; 16 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley (Marvin) Burns, Grafton, ND; Lois (Lowell) Redmann, St. Thomas, two brothers: George (Mary) Torkelson, Long Lake, MN; David (Stella) Torkelson, Eagen, MN; two sisters-in-law: Ruth (Clifford) Mesedahl, Kent, WA and Joann Torkelson, Mesa, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Myron "Mike" Torkelson and Lowell Torkelson.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7:30 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the North Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Grafton, ND.
