Benjamin Clyde Newcity, 65,
World War I veteran, who resided with his sister, and for a few months last year at the Vermont Soldiers Home, died Wednesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital, White River Junction where he was transferred only a few days ago. Born Aug. 6, 1891 in Montgomery, Vt., he was the son of Joseph and Salome Lahue Newcity. His schooling had been received in North Troy, Vt., and after completion of his studies he went to work for the Blair Veneer Co. as a bandsaw operator and had a record of 29 years' service with the firm with the exception ol the time he was in service in World War I. He served with Co. C, '39th Inf.
Div., stationed in France. He returned to his' work at Blair company for a while after his discharge and then went to St. Johnsbury
to become affiliated with the Barrow Mfg. Co. Later he was with the U.S. Rubber Co. at Watterbury, Conn. After working in
other parts of the state for a few years, he retired and was at the Veterans Administration Hospital before coming to the Vermont
Soldiers Home last March. His favorite hobby had been leathercraft work at which he was adept.
Surviving is his sister. Friends may call at Walbridge Funeral Home this afternoon and evening.. Funeral services will be h e l d
tomorrow at 2:30 p m. from the funeral home with the Rev. Robert F. S p e n c e r , First Baptist Church pastor, officiating. E n -
tombment will be in Park Lawn Vault and burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in the spring.
