Ether Wallace Bowers, 85, died July 9, 1998 at his son's home from cancer.

Wallace was born July 9, 1913 in Nephi, Utah, the first of five children of Ether Bowers and Marietta Pay Bowers. He spent his early childhood growing up in the small agricultural community of Nephi and graduated from Juab High School. He worked as a sheepherder, dairy farmer, roofer, cab driver, dry farmer and mechanic, retiring from Salt Lake County Mosquito Abatement as their chief mechanic. He spent 10 years of his retirement working part time at McDonalds as a lobby host and as an amateur competitive ballroom dancer. As a lifelong active member of the LDS Church, Wallace served as a stake missionary, ward clerk, scout leader and stake single adult chairman. He also served as a veil worker at the Salt Lake Temple for 15 years, receiving an honorable release in November 1994.Preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Doris Little. He is survived by brothers, Mervin and Jacob and sister, Marie; three of his four children, Donald Bowers (Carolyn) of Turlock, CA; Sara (Scott) Johnson of Sandy, UT; and Mavis (husband Jim) Quarles of Roy, UT; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Daughter, Belva Bullock Blackett, and brother, James preceded him in death.

Wallace was a caring, quiet and gentle man. He will be missed by all. His love for his family was genuine and sincere. We'll miss you Wally.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, July 14th from 6-8 p.m. at the Deseret Mortuary, 36 E. 700 South in Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held at the same location Wednesday, July 15th at 10 a.m. followed by graveside services at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, UT at 2 p.m.
