During WWII Bernedia worked at the Fisher Body Plant in Pontiac welding tanks for the military. Later in life she worked for the Battle Creek Enquirer and News and also at Jim's Flower Shop. She loved making flower arrangements.
After WWII, Bernedia moved to Battle Creek and married Lewis J. Babick, after he returned from his European tour with the U.S. Army. Along with her late husband, she was very active in Veteran's Rights and Affairs. Bernedia was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church in Battle Creek. She was also a life member of the DAV-Wolverine State Chapter #33, a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 565, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Military Order of the Purple Heart #110, and she was past president of the Mothers of WWII, before that group's closure.
Bernedia was preceded in death by her husband Lewis; her daughter: Cynthia; her son: Barry; and all of her siblings: Andrew, Marie, and Florence.
Bernedia is survived by her 2 sons: Michael and Andrew (Christine) Babick, and her daughter: Nancy (Wade) Rothwell, all of Battle Creek. She also leaves behind several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren, as well as several first cousins, several nieces and nephews, and a special love for niece: Betty, and nephew: Roger, and her lifelong friend: Annie Champion.
Funeral prayers will be recited on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:15 a.m. at the Royal Funeral Home, Battle Creek, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church, Battle Creek, Fr. Charles Fischer will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home with a Rosary recitation at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be in Battle Creek Memorial Park, Battle Creek. Memorials in Bernedia's name may be directed to St. Philip Catholic Church, Battle Creek.
