Second enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant commissioned in Company F, 101st Infantry Regiment Indiana on 5 Sep 1862 at Wabash, Indiana. Mustered Out Company F, 101st Infantry Regiment Indiana on 24 Jun 1865 at Louisville, KY.
Married Loretta Jane McClure on 5 March 1866 in Wabash County, Indiana; parents of infant son, Lewis Hawkins (1868-1869).

John Siliman Hawkins was a native of Rush County, Ind., where he was born on the 27th of November 1838. When quite young he moved with his father, James Hawkins to Huntington County. At the breaking out of the war, he enlisted in Company I, Twelfth Infantry for one year. After the expiration of his term of service he assisted Capt. B.F. Williams in raising Company F, One Hundred and First Indiana Regiment, and became First Lieutenant. At the expiration of his term of service, he came home in feeble health and died of consumption on the 18th of September 1869.
FYI - Lt. Hawkins' Civil War sword is among the artifacts in the Dr. James Ford Historic Home (a living history museum), 177 West Hill Street, Wabash, Indiana.
