She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna M. Monroe; brothers, Waverly and Edward; and sister, Edna.
Lena leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Robert, Calvin, James and Marvin; sisters, Marie and Mattie; a host of nieces, great nieces and great-great nieces, Jackie, Carolyn, Lucille and Esther; among them, two devoted, Nancy and Doris Monroe; a devoted great-niece, Lisa Cosby; a host of nephews, Raymond (Linda), Herman, Irvin and Marshall; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Remains rested at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull Street. Funeral services were held Friday, August 21, 2009, 1pm, at Zion Baptist Church, 2006 Decatur Street, where remains laid in state at 12 noon. Dr. Robert Pettis Pastor officiated. Interment Maury Cemetery. Family and friends assembled at the church Friday, August 21, 2009, 12:30pm.
