George L. Bonney, 82, of 7409 Salina St., a lifetime resident of Pulaski and a decorated World War II veteran, died Friday at Oswego County Hospital.
The funeral was at 10 a.m. today at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, with the Rev. Elizabeth Mowry, pastor of the Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.
Donations can be made to Pulaski Ringgold Fire Department Building Fund or the Northern Oswego County Ambulance Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta A.; two daughters, Vawn B. Otis, Pulaski, and Kristie A. Van Dyke, both of Pulaski; two sons, Robert A. Clark, Las Vegas, Nev., and George F. Shaw II, Pulaski; two sisters, Marjorie Bonney, Syracuse, and Muriel VanWie, Pulaski; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Born Sept. 16, 1909, he was the son of G. Addison and Grace Ryther Bonney. He graduated from Pulaski Academy in 1929 and then served with the Army's 301st Heavy Field Armor Company from 1943 to 1945. During World War II, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and also participated in the D-Day landing in France.
He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Service Medal for his service in the war.
Mr. Bonney owned and operated Bonney Contracting from 1950 until 1971, when he retired. He had previously worked as a carpenter for his father in Pulaski for many years.
He was a 47-year member and past commander of the Robert Edwards Post 358, American Legion, and was a member and past commander of both the VFW Post 7289, and the Oswego County Council VFW.
Mr. Bonney married Mildred Jacobsen, who died May 5, 1977. He married Roberta Shaw on June 30, 1979.
