Donald Smith Brown, 91, of Mount Pleasant, died at 8:48 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. He was born January 25, 1914, near Denova southwest of Mount Pleasant, the son of Charlie and Retta (Smith) Brown. On February 6, 1937, he married Edith Frances Hoover in Mount Pleasant. She died April 25, 1991.

Donald farmed before his marriage. For 20 years he worked as a telephone technician with the former Mount Pleasant Telephone Company. He finally worked as a mechanic for the former Metromail Corporation in Mount Pleasant, retiring in 1979.

He attended and graduated from Mount Pleasant schools. He was a 50-year member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in New London; and was a volunteer at Midwest Old Threshers, where he kept busy repairing and rejuvenating much of the mechanical equipment there.

Survivors included his daughters Margaret Cimeley of Paducah, Kentucky, and Nancy Longwell of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brother Rex Brown of Mount Pleasant. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Dorothy (Brown) Kerr Chatham.

His funeral was at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant at 2 p.m. on May 21st, with the Rev. Nicholas J. Adam, pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church officiating. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery.
