Nelly Jane Burroughs was born Feb 24, 1802, in Nicholas County, Kentucky. Her parents are unknown at this time, but her bondsman on her marriage license was Michael Burroughs who may have been her father, brother or another relative.

On Dec 25, 1824 in Clark County, Kentucky, Nelly married William Scobee, born in Kentucky (1802-1890), a son of Robert B. Scobee, born in Virginia (1775-1835), and Elizabeth Brohard (1777-1846) of foreign birth.

William and Nelly settled into a life of farming in Montgomery County, Kentucky, and had eight known children, including two who died young. They were:
Robert Scobee, (twin) (1826-1890),
Mary Polly Scobee-Dooley, (twin) (1826-1906),
Alexander Samuel Scobee (1827-1910),
Stephen Scobee (1829-1830),
James Washington Burroughs Scobee (1830-1893),
George Scobee (1835-1835),
Elizabeth A. Scobee-Hillis (1837-1907), and
Nellie Jane Scobee-Huls (1842-1931), all born in Kentucky.

Nelly died on Jan 5, 1875 in Montgomery County, and both she and her husband are buried in Machpelah Cemetery in Mount Sterling, Kentucky.
