Will Eagles, who would have been 66 years of age on January 30th died at his home here Tuesday night, December 28th, after ill health of four years duration. Mr. Eagles, Winn Parish's first rural mail carrier, retired from service last April, and his health continued to fail until his death.
Born and reared near Winnfield, the son of the late Edward and Martha [sic Nancy] Eagles, Mr. Will Eagles received his education in the schools of this parish. He later taught in the public schools and in 1909 entered the service of the United States Post office as rural carrier on Route One, Winnfield, serving as carrier for 28 years. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Wesley Brotherhood.
Mr Eagles was married to Mrs. Daisy Wilson Grigsby, who survives him. He also leaves two step-sons, Tom Grigsby of Longview, Texas, and John Grigsby of Winnfield; one brother Jim Eagles of Winnfield and one sister, Mrs. Tinnie Stroud of Winnfield and a large number of nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. G. A. Morgan in charge, assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes and Rev. B. C. Land. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Hugh Mercer, D. F. Shell, Charlie Smith, J. A. Cockerham, Olan Dickerson and W. L. Sowers.
Honorary pallbearers were: W. T. Norman, V. L. Brumfield, Bob Fletcher, H. W. Bass, Dr. J. F. Faith, Dr. F. C. Fittz, Shirley Jackson, Waco Grigsby, Guy Johnson, Dan Page, A. W.
