Son of William O. and Dada Bean. He graduated from Ellettsville High School in 1942. Entered the service in March 1943. He was an aerial gunner with the Army Air Corp. He was reported missing in action June 5, 1944 when the plane in which he was a crew member failed to return from a bombing misson to Continental Europe. North of Dieppe, France, his plane sustained damage from enemy antiaircraft fire and a short while later was seen burning over the English Channel south of the Srait of Dover. He was officially declared dead as of June 6, 1945 on his 21st birthday.
