Karen was a classmate of mine, and a kind one, at that. Our senior trip took us to Annapolis, Maryland. We shared a seat on the bus and watched for out-of-state license tags. Her small kindness in indulging in such a peculiar pastime gladdened me immeasureably. She was killed in a head-on collision on I70 near New Market, Maryland by a drunk driver. Her parents never fully recovered. And the Hereford High School Class of 1970 lost one of its most compassionate members.

Obituary published in the Baltimore (Md.) Sun March 10, 1975
