|The original gatehouse of Strangeways Prison, opened in 1868. Following a 1990 riot that destroyed much of the facility, the prison was rebuilt and its cemetery demolished. The remains of between 60 and 100 executed prisoners, including those of the famous "Manchester Martyrs", were cremated and reinterred in two communal plots at Blackley Cemetery in Manchester. Strangeways is now offically known as HM Prison Manchester.|
