Bob died in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Monday, July 6, 2009, at the age of 75. Bob was born March 25, 1934 in Fieldton, Texas, to Wayne and Lucy (Maddux) Barnett. He was reared and educated in Littlefield, Texas and graduated with the Littlefield High School Class of 1951. He continued his education at Texas Tech University, where he received his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering in 1955. He was married on May 31, 2001, to Kay Whaley. Bob spent his working life as a petroleum engineer.

Bob was a Rotarian (Chanute Rotary Club) with 23 years of perfect attendance and was the recipient of Paul Harris award. He was a 50 year member of Society of Petroleum Engineers. He received several other awards as follows: Society of Petroleum Engineers – Improved Oil Recovery Pioneer Award 2000 and the Legion of Honor 50 year Award 2005. He was Past President of Eastern Kansas Oil & Gas Association and a member of TORP/PTTC. Bob's professional affiliations were many including Independent Petroleum Association of America; Director of the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association; Director of the Eastern Kansas Oil and Gas Association; Advisor of the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project, Kansas University; Advisory Committee of the State of Kansas Ad Valorem Tax Department; Steering Committee of Eastern Kansas Oil and Gas Institute; President of the Eastern Kansas Oil and Gas Association 1983 – 1985; member of Producers Advisory Group of Petroleum Technology Transfer Council.

He enjoyed a variety of pastimes including hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. He was an active volunteer for the Blue Star Mothers of America. Bob enjoyed following the financial markets and was an avid reader.

He loved spending time with family and friends. Loving family members include his wife; three daughters and their husbands; two sons; two brothers Max Barnett and wives; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2009, at Central Baptist Church in Owasso. Committal services and interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Blue Star Mothers of Oklahoma Chapter One, P.O. Box 2306, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74101 or Domestic Violence Intervention Services, 4300 South Harvard, Suite 100, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74135. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
