Arthur Carraway Died Thursday

Arthur Carraway, a well known citizen of this county died at his home about six miles east of town last Thursday night. The deceased had not been ill for any length of time, dying a few hours after becoming ill.

Mr. Carraway was about 50 years of age and grew up in this county, where he had numbers of friends. For a long time he had been engaged in farming, but a few years ago went into the cattle business, in which he was very successful.

He leaves two sons [Rufus and Gordon Caraway} and two daughters *[see note below] to mourn his loss, besides a number of other relatives.

This text above is from the obituary notice of Arthur Carraway, published on 30 January 1914, page 4 of the Madison newspaper.

*The reference of leaving behind two daughters is not correct. At the time of Arthur's death, Lura, Eva, Ollie and Audrey were still alive. Only one of his daughters, Gladys, predeceased him.
*The last name is spelled "Carraway" on his tombstone and in his obituary. Most members of the family spell the name with only one r = Caraway, including Arthur.
