Alvah H. Ayer, Jr.
January 31, 1926 - May 12, 2008

Alvah H. Ayer Jr., 82, of Concord. died Monday May 12, 2008 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband of 55 years of Eunice (Kelley) Ayer.

Born in Lowell. on January 31, 1926 he was the son of the late Alvah H. Ayer and Evelyn (Smith) Ayer. He was a 1944 graduate of Lowell High School and later graduated from Tilton Academy in Tilton, New Hampshire.

During World War II, Mr. Ayer served in the United States Army Air Forces as an Aviation Cadet.

For over thirty years, he was employed in the Traffic Department of the Boston and Maine Railroad and later until his retirement as an inspector for the Interstate Commerce Commission.

A Concord resident since 1953, he was a former member of the Concord Lodge of Elks.

An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, he was a member of the Tramps Golfers Club and was a captain of the ushers at the former Schaefer Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

In addition to his wife Eunice, survivors include a son Laurence P. Ayer and his companion Cathy Mellen of Nashua, New Hampshire, a daughter Janet K. Lunig and her husband Jim of Providence, Rhode Island and a son Kevin K. Ayer of Stow; a granddaughter Elana M. Ayer of Litchfield, New Hampshire; two brothers, Willard F. Ayer of Concord and Donald Ayer of Chelmsford and a sister Diane Murphy of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was also the brother of the late Evelyn Johnson, Esther Zaberiek, Roger Ayer and Robert Ayer.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 14th at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord,Center from 4 to 8 PM.

Funeral will be held on Thursday, May 15th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA at 9 AM followed by a funeral service at 10 AM in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center.

Interment with military honors will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Bedford Street, Concord, MA.

Concord's town flag will fly at half staff on Thursday in reconition of Mr. Ayer's service in the United States Army Air Force during WWII.
