MATTOON, Ill. — Gladys May Allen, 83, of Mattoon, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at home at Gowin Parc in Mattoon. Gladys was born Nov. 17, 1925, in Spokane, Wash., a daughter of Loren and Etta (Stannard) Holbrook. She married Richard F. Allen on June 28, 1947, in Spokane. She is survived by three daughters, Janice Harshbarger and husband John of Andrews, Ind., Kathie Marks and husband John of Indianapolis, Ind., and Sue Fuller and husband Jim of Mattoon. She leaves nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; their youngest daughter, Patti Christensen; a sister, Lois Melcher; and two brothers, Ray and Howard Holbrook, all of Spokane. Patti's widower, Scott Christensen, has remained a treasured member of the family. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Schilling Funeral Home, 1301 Charleston Avenue in Mattoon, Ill. Funeral services honoring her life will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Minister Kevin Wolfe officiating. Graveside services will be at 7 p.m. (EDT) Friday in the Riverside Cemetery at Andrews, Ind.
