Mr. Cummings was born Feb. 15, 1869, at Savannah, Tenn., but spent part of his adult life in Alabama, coming here from that state 32 years ago. For many years he conducted a blacksmithing business in the Stubbtown community.
He leaves several descendants. Married in April of 1877 to Martha Adaline Pace, five sons and three daughters were born to the couple, all surviving. They are J.R., C.L. and John Cummings of Philcampbell, Ala., Will of Russellville and L.M. Cummings of Spruce Pine, Ala.; Mrs. T. Latham of Russellville and Mrs. Minnie DuBois of Philcampbell, Ala., and Mrs. Ida Howard of Benton Harbor, Mich.
In September of 1904 he was married to Dollie Brumley of this community and he is survived by four sons and three daughters of this marriage. They are Herschel and Odell Cummings of Kennett, Winford of St. Louis and O.T. Cummings of Caruthersville; Mdmes. Flora Mae Mitchell and Robert Treece of St. Louis and Pauline Roach of Caruthersville. One son. L.C. Cummings, is reported by the War Department to have lost his life in action in France August 16, 1944. Numerous grandchildren and perhaps great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition the deceased leaves one sister, Mrs. Laura Taylor of Eaton, Tenn., and three brothers, James, Oscar and Wyatt Cummings, all of whom live in Tennessee.
