Funeral services for Mr. Dera Bates, 84, will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Rockett Funeral Home Chapel in Ringgold, LA. Interment will follow at Bistineau Cemetery. Rev. Roy Southern will officiate the services.

Visitation for Mr. Bates will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, September 26, 2008 at Rockett Funeral Home.

Mr. Bates was born on April 16, 1924 to Oscar Wilson and Robie Lee Linton Bates and passed away on September 24, 2008. Mr. Bates was a veteran of WWII and was a Medical Corpsman in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen Bates.

Left to cherish his memories are his son, Mid-Ray Clark and his wife Susan of Los Cruses, New Mexico; his daughter, Anita Mae Fields-Gold and her husband Maurine of Lake Charles, LA; one brother, Tellie Bates of Texas; two sisters, Marcie Weaver of Arcadia, LA and Earline Poland of Lucky, LA; three grandchildren, Dera Jennings Clark and his wife Donna, Billy Gene Clark and his wife Debra, and Kyle Fields and his wife Belinda; six great grandchildren, Jennings, Cooper, Bryce, Brannon, Mandi and John; one great, great grandson, Korbin Bryan; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star's Shriners Transportation Fund or Fryeburg Baptist Church.
