Clara A. Baker

Clara A. Baker, 98, of Peru, Ind., died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Millers Merry Manor Nursing Home in Peru.

Born March 30, 1909, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Harry and Lora (Phillipe) Winton. She married Garnett Baker on Dec. 25, 1933, and he preceded her in death in August of 1965.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda (husband, Ken) Cawood of Peru; son, Larry (wife, Gudrun) Baker of Ocean Springs, Miss.; grandchildren, Christina Bowyer, Teresa Cawood, Dennis Baker, Gina Matthews and Hiedi Dinehart; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thomas Omer Winton; and sisters, Ruby Eleanor Ray and Cordelia Cundiff.

Mrs. Baker had been a custodian at Shelbyville Junior High School until retiring.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Perry Richards officiating.

Burial will be in Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock.

Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St. in Peru, is handling the local arrangements.
