Beulah "Ruth" Voorhees, 80, of Granite City, Ill., born Feb. 19, 1928, in Nashville, Ill., passed away at 1:34 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2009, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.
She worked for Petri's Cafe in Granite City, Ill., with more than 30 years of dedicated service as a waitress. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church in Granite City, Ill., and will be remembered for the love she had for her years of work.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Lee Voorhees Jr., whom she married on Aug. 5, 1944, in St. Charles, Mo., and who died on Oct. 29, 1993; her parents, Raymond and Carlie, nee Dempsey, Hoffman; and two brothers, Carl Hoffman and Clarence Hoffman.
Surviving are her daughter, Cheryl L. Riggs; two sons, Raymond Carl (Shirley) Voorhees and Michael Voorhees; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Bert (Vickie) Hoffman; other extended family and friends.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
Funeral: Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, with the Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Concord Cemetery in Rice, Ill.
