Anchorage resident Diann Esther Acheson, 65, died peacefully of pancreatic cancer Dec. 12, 2007, at her son's home in Anchorage. Services were at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 2501 Maplewood St. Burial was at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery in the spring. Bishop Tim Morgan officiated.

Mrs. Acheson was born July 8, 1942, in Salt Lake City. She came to Alaska in 1953. After high school, Diann attended the Anchorage School of Cosmetology, where she became a licensed instructor at the school, and with a few exceptions, had lived in Alaska ever since. Her family wrote: "In her life, Diann has done many things to include cosmetologist, cosmetology instructor, receptionist in a bank and veterinary clinic, and worked on the election board. Mrs. Acheson also spent several years with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, and the hospital volunteer auxiliary. Above all in life, Diann was a dedicated and loving wife and mother." Mrs. Acheson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and an avid volunteer. "Helping people was her life's breath," her family wrote. She received the volunteer of the year award with the Alaska Regional Hospital volunteer auxiliary. She also enjoyed quilting, camping, cooking, gardening, and loved to bake fruitcake and Stolen bread (a German-style bread) at Christmastime.

Diann is survived by her husband, Robert; sons, Stephen, Paul and Michael; grandsons, Kaleb, Shane, Seth, Blake and Tyler; parents, Howard and Irene Belka; and brothers and sisters, Elaine, Nancy, Darlene, Tary, Cathy and Steve.
