CAMPBELL, Charles Alexander Sr., age 89, of Fairlawn passed away Wednesday, October 22,1997. He was born April 10, 1908 in Damascus, VA to the late Horton & Bertha Anderson Campbell. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Babel Rouse Campbell, and a son, Jimmie Harold Campbell and also by a brother, Herbert Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a longtime resident of the Fairlawn Community where he enjoyed his retirement from Hercules Inc. since 1972. His hobbies were repairing sewing machines and lawn mowers. He served for many years as a faithful member of the Fairlawn Baptist Church as a Trustee, Deacon and was a liaison representative for the church family during the rebuilding of the present facility. He was also a former member of the Fairlawn Fire Department. Surviving are a son & daughter-in-law, Charles & Kitty Campbell, Fairlawn; granddaughter & husband, Susan & Mark Rooney, Pulaski; grandson, Edward A. Campbell, Fairlawn; also a great grandson, Charles Brandon Hughett; and step grandchildren, Jeremy Marc Rooney and Ashley Brooke Rooney; also surviving are three brothers & sisters-in-law, Rev. Henry & Louise Campbell, Marion, Robert F. & Helen Campbell, Abingdon, and Jack & Betty Campbell, Friendship. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 1997 at the Fairlawn Baptist Church with Rev. Danny W. Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fairlawn Baptist Church Sound System-c/o Fairlawn Baptist Church, 6758 Oxford Avenue, Radford, VA 24141. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 24, 1997 at the Fairlawn Baptist Church, or anytime at the home of Charles & Kitty Campbell, 7606 Carden Drive in Fairlawn. DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford is in charge of arrangements.
