Vance Alden Aker, 84, of Radford, died Thursday, June 3, 1993 in Bluefield, VA. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired recreation director of St. Alban's Hospital and the City of Radford. He was a member of the Radford Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Essie Dickens Aker; his parents, the Rev. J.F. & Delena White Aker; a stepson, J.B.; White; a stepdaughter, Twila Orrison; and two brothers, Bruce Aker and Frank Aker. Surviving are one sister, Mildred Aker, of Richlands; two brothers, Roger Aker of Bluefield, WV and Stuart Aker of Raleigh, NC; his stepmother, Louise Wood Aker of Evington; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral home, Radford, with the Rev. Joe Burton and the Rev. Jim Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home, Radford. Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home, Radford, is in charge of arrangements.
