SPRINGFIELD - Rosemary C. Carmody, 76, of Springfield died at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at her residence.

Rosemary was born July 15, 1932, in Seward, IL, the daughter of John (Joe) and LennaBelle A. Holland Dolan; they preceded her in death. She married Robert W. Carmody on August 6, 1955, in Pecatonica, IL; he preceded her in death on January 19, 2008.

Rosemary was a graduate of Bishop Muldoon High School's class of 1950 and Marquette University's class of 1954. She was employed by School District 186 for twelve years. However, her proudest achievement was raising nine children and ensuring that all of her daughters had college degrees.

Rosemary was an avid reader and enjoyed her Bridge Club and being a lifetime member of the Springfield Ceramics and Crafts Club. She volunteered at St. John's Hospital. She belonged to Christ the King Church, where she was a lector, Eucharistic minister, and a choir member. She was also an avid Marquette University, University of Illinois and St. Louis Cardinal fan.

She is survived by three sons, Robert (wife, Rita) Carmody Jr. of Godfrey, Joseph Carmody of Baldwin, MO, and Daniel (wife, Kari) Carmody of Kirkwood, MO; six daughters, Kathleen Goryl of Naperville, Mary (husband, Steve) Kunshek of Springfield, Tracy (husband, Zack) Church of Riverwoods, Laura Carmody of Springfield, Molly (husband, Sean) Neary of Downer's Grove and Julia (husband, Brian) Wort of Pewaukee, WI; eighteen grandchildren, Robert Carmody III, Sean, Alexandra, Joseph, Nora and Anna Carmody, Madeline and Rosemary Goryl, Megan Kleinschmidt, Zachary, Erin and Ryan Church, Connor, Carley and Catherine Neary, and Dolan, Kelsey and Bailey Wort; and several cousins.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Following visitation, cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Drive, Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. David Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
