John Adamski, Jr., 76, South Heart, ND, died Monday, April 27, 2009 in Tucson, Ariz.
John's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, South Heart with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will follow the Mass and be provided by the Dickinson Veterans Honor Team. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2009 at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
John was born September 23, 1932 in Dickinson the son of John and Agnes (Simek) Adamski. He was raised and educated in South Heart having graduated from South Heart High School in 1950.
John married Eleanor Kordonowy on October 24, 1951 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, South Heart. He served honorably in the United States Army from January 27, 1953 to January 28, 1955. John had lived most of his life in the South Heart area, with a period of time being spent living in Belfield and Linton. He mainly dairy farmed and ranched and also drove semi-truck for a short while.
John participated as a bareback bronc rider in rodeos when he was younger, and enjoyed playing the banjo with the Cornie Weiler Orchestra. He had also been a pitcher on the American Legion Baseball team, played intramural basketball and softball. Following and discussing politics, playing pool and cards with his family and buddies. A good round of golf and watching sports and movies are all things that brought him enjoyment.
John belonged to the VFW, the Veterans Drill Team, the Eagles Club, St. Anthony Club, the American Legion and the St. Pius Club.
John is survived by Eleanor; their three children, Bruce Adamski, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Gordon Adamski, Hendersonville, Tenn., and Karen (Richard) Frechette, Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Nicole Arslanian and Devon Adamski, Denver, Colo.; one sister, Shirley (Ted) Dolechek, Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Adamski; a sister, Jan Urbanec; and one niece, Penny Urbanec.
