PHILADELPHIA — A spring graveside service for Bruce L. Getman, 94, Irish Avenue, will be held in Dexter Cemetery. Mr. Getman died Saturday afternoon at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, where he had been a resident for a week. There will be no calling hours. The ar-rangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Mr. Getman worked at the former Taggart Brothers Paper Mill in Watertown and owned and operated Getman's Diner and Store, Brownville, with his wife, Pearl, for many years. Mr. Getman was a past member of Brownville American Legion, where he served as vice commander, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5344 in Adams and the Papermakers Union. He enjoyed reading non-fiction and history literature of all kinds. Born May 20, 1914, in Watertown, son of Ross and Anna Belcher Getman, he graduated from Watertown High School in 1933 and served in the Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a radio mechanic serving in Algeria, Morocco, Naples, Rome and Sicily, and received the American Order French Croix DeGuerre. He was discharged as a sergeant. He married Pearl Squires Combs on Aug. 20, 1950, in Brownville. She died Aug. 4, 2001. Surviving are a brother and his wife, Robert and Mary, Depauville, two sisters, Rene Getman, Brownville, and Marilyn Getman, Watertown; a stepdaughter and her husband, Shirley and Noah Prior, Watertown; a stepson and his wife, Edwin and Sue Ann White, Galloway, N.J.; many grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Earl and Lloyd, two sisters, Myrtle Cox and Marion Monica, a granddaughter-in-law and great-granddaughter, died before him.
