Major League baseball player. He was a right-handed hitting outfielder who spent all or part of 15 seasons with the Cincinnati Reds (1949, 1951-57, 1960-63), Philadelphia Phillies (1958 to 1960), Minnesota Twins (1963) and Cleveland Indians (1964). He hit 210 home runs during his Major League career, including 40 in 1955, and had a lifetime .266 batting average. Known for his power, he won a number of clothing suits for hitting the sign on top of the laundry that stood beyond the left field wall at Cincinnati's Crosley Field. He also defeated Hank Aaron in the syndicated television show "Home Run Derby". A member of the Reds 1961 National League Championship team, he batted .333 in the World Series that year including a home run in Game Five. After retiring from baseball, Wally Post was an official with a canning company in west-central Ohio. He died of cancer at age 52 in 1982.
