BENTON, Mo. -- Mary J. Spalding, 100, of Benton died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Nov. 22, 1903, at Kelso, Mo., daughter of John and Louise Logel Enderle. She and Joseph L. Spalding were married Feb. 25, 1925, at Jackson. He died in 1951.

Mrs. Spalding was a housewife and had been a school bus driver for Kelso C-7 and Benton/Kelly School Districts. She attended St. Denis Catholic Church. She had been a 4-H leader and was involved with senior citizens. She loved children and helping all her friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Ida L. "Susie" Roper and Mary Alice Schweer of Benton; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joe "Amos" Spalding; two daughters, Martha Ann Dempster and Blanche "Sally" Asmus; four sisters; and four brothers.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Benton Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Denis Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Seyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery.
