LAWRENCE D. ALFELD, 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he work-ed as a Product Evaluation Manager with NAVISTAR International for 43 years, retiring in 2000. He was Indiana National Guard and member of Lutheran Men of Song. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Alfeld of Harrison, Ark.; children, Karl M. Alfeld of Houston, Texas, Kimberley (Andy) Gunkel of Fort Wayne, Karie (Kurt) Swank of Woodstock Valley, Conn., and Kraig Alfeld of Fort Wayne; brother, Dick (Sharon) Alfeld of Fort Wayne; sisters, Pat (Ron) Doan of Fort Wayne and Nettie (Paul) Rekeweg of Woodburn and Beth (Ron) Chard of Ocala, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ezra; daughter, Kelley; and brother, Steve. Service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 W Jefferson Blvd., with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Thomas Eggold officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
