Margie Elaine Dempster, 71, of LeMars, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at her home in LeMars.
Margie Elaine Linderer was born July 13, 1928, at home in Willow Springs, Mo., the daughter of Edward and Bessie Lee (Radford) Linderer. As a young girl, Margie moved with her family to Iowa. She was united in marriage to Darrel Dempster on Nov. 5, 1944, at his parents' home in Union Township, rural Plymouth County.
Margie and Darrel lived on a farm in Union Township for a few years then they moved to Kingsley and later moved back to the farm in Union. Darrel had been an electrician at Westmar College in LeMars for over 20 years and Margie stayed home to care for the children. In 1978, Margie and Darrel moved to LeMars.
Margie enjoyed crocheting, reading and cooking for her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margie also enjoyed raising flowers and watching and feeding birds.
Survivors include her husband, Darrel Dempster of LeMars; two sons, Gary Dempster of Chicago, Ill. and Darrel Dempster, Jr. of LeMars; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Kenneth Becker of LeMars and Helen and David Fischer of LeMars; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister Bess Ann Slater Weidner of Owatonna, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Linderer; mother, Bessie Linderer Slater; stepfather, Sam Slater; a sister, Mildred Herbold; and a son, Thomas Dempster.
Private family services will be at a later date. Arrangements are with the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of LeMars. [Transcriber's Note: Margie Elaine's cremains may be buried next to her mother, Bessie Slater.]
