Edna's obituary, in the Alamogordo Cloudcrofter in Otero Co., New Mexico, on October 14, 1921:

Death of Edna Jergins:
The funeral service of Edna Jergins aged 12, who passed away in this city Monday was conducted at the Gevers and Hammon Undertaking parlors Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Beddingfield Officiating. Interment was in Mount Vista cemetery. Deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Jergins of Cloudcroft, who have the sincere sympathy of all in their bereavement. (Correct funeral home name was Geren & Hammon Undertaking Parlors)

According to her obituary and death certificate, young Edna Jergins was buried in Mt. Vista Cemetery on October 11, 1921. Mt. Vista Cemetery is the old section of Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo, NM. The location of her grave is unknown because she was one of many people whose grave was unmarked, or the marker is buried, illegible, or it was made of wood or other biodegradable materials.

Edna's father, William Edward Jergins Sr.) was my great-grandfather, and his daughter by Susan Marie Phillips Jergins was my grandmother. Cathey A. (Weldy) Cline

I greatly appreciate Mr. Don Herbert's kindness! He read Edna's memorial, and thoughtfully provided information about the cemetery. He also gave me permission to repeat it below. Cathey Weldy Cline

"I have seen a number of obituaries from the period of Ms. Jergins's death that refer to Monte Vista Cemetery as Mount Vista Cemetery. If her obituary says she was buried in Mount Vista I would think that she is in fact buried in the Monte Vista cemetery.

However; burial records from the earlier days are virtually non existent for a number of reasons. The currently available records for the older burials were made by cemetery employees who walked the cemetery and recorded the markers that they found. Many of the graves in the older sections of Monte Vista are marked with badly deteriorated stones or sometimes rotted wood and some were never marked at all. If Ms. Jergins does not have a legible marker, her burial location would be one of the many unknown."
