Co. F, 10th Michigan Cavalry
Myron Alfred Converse was the son of Hiram Converse and his first wife, Dearsa Smith (1805, VT-1840, MI). He was a resident of Jackson County, Michigan, when he enlisted as a private at Mason, Michigan, August 5, 1861. He was mustered into Company B, 7th Michigan Infantry, August 22, 1861. Private Converse sustained a wound to the thigh at the Battle of Gettysburg July 3, 1863, and was sent home to Mason, Michigan, to recover. He accepted a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant July 25, 1863, and in August 1863 served as a recruiter in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Again fit for field duty, he was mustered out of the 7th Michigan Infantry September 11, 1863, and transferred to Company A, 10th Michigan Cavalry, October 2, 1863. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant April 1, 1864, and then to Captain January 5, 1865. Captain Converse was mustered out at Memphis, Tennessee, November 11, 1865. After the war Myron headed west and became a prospector. He registered to vote in Inyo County, California, July 26, 1875 (Inyo County Great Register). He later settled at Tombstone, Arizona, where he was an early member of Burnside Post, Grand Army of the Republic. He moved to Phoenix a short time before his death. Is this his brother Orlin Converse? Or, is this his brother Orlin? Myron was never married.
