James Alfred Lindsey was born 28 Apr 1793 near the Haw River, east of Raleigh, NC. His parents were Delilah (Hodgson) Brewer and James Lindsey -- a Revolutionary War veteran. He and Jane (aka Jean) Scott were married 2 Feb 1814 in Christian County, KY. They moved to Tazewell County in April 1834. James Alfred was a pioneering preacher in the Christian Church / Disciples of Christ denomination and founded the Christian Church in nearby Mackinaw, as well as several others in the area.
