Mr. Tatum served in the US Navy with the Fifth and Seventh Fleets during WWII. Stewart was an assigned JAG officer until he took command of the LST #672. There were no casualties in this ship's crew during the war, although it participated in most all major South Pacific invasions. He was past commander of the Joplin U.S. Naval Reserve Unit. He was a member of the Twin Hills Golf and Country Club and the Godfather's Golf Group. He was one of the early members of the Joplin Historical Society. He was a 33rd Degree Mason.
