On Novmber 8th, 1883, Bernard Higgins, was a laborer, working on the new south wing of the State capitol, when one of the main walls collapsed. Higgins died on the scene. Four other men, including: William Edgar, James Kelly, & Michael Zwank were also killed in the collapse, while several other men were severely injured.
