Frank Arvil Beck was born in Galena Illinois the ninth of ten children of John and Rosie Beck. His father worked as a stone mason in the quarries around Galena Illinois. He moved to Dubuque, Iowa at a young age. Later he met the love of his life Dolores Smith, and they moved to Chicago around 1928. In the construction trade Frank worked as a house painter. Frank and his wife Dolores raised 5 children from their modest home in the Roseland neighborhood on Chicago's south side. He became ill and died in a Chicago Hospital a week before Christmas in 1972. His wife Dolores was called to the afterlife less than two weeks later.
