Betty was born July 13, 1925 in Joplin, daughter of the late Ray Cochran and Margaret Keenan Cochran. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1943 and attended Joplin Business College. Betty's first job after college was as a secretary for Joplin Transfer and Storage. She worked for Gold Bond for 9 years, and retired from the Joplin R-8 School District as secretary to guidance counselors after 18 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and was also a member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization and served as president.
Betty enjoyed traveling, was an avid bridge player, and treasured her time with her family and friends. Her faith and her family were her greatest sources of strength.
She married Melvin Berry on January 17, 1963 in Miami, Oklahoma, he survives at the home. Additional survivors include a son, Craig Hall and wife Mary of Ozark, Missouri; two daughters, Vicki O'Neal and husband Larry of Baxter Springs, Kansas, Vickie Hudson and husband Dennis of Joplin; six grandchildren, Anitra Piatt, Meredith Johnston and husband David, Ryan Hudson, Missy Bracker and husband Mike, Valerie Adams and husband Cory; and Natalie O'Neal; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Austin Bracker, and Chloe Adams.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Ryan Hudson, Cory Adams, David Johnston, Mike Bracker, Dennis Hudson, and Larry O'Neal serving as pallbearers. A prayer service will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with family to receive friends following the service.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
The family wishes to convey their gratitude to the staff of CCU and Palliative Care at St. John's, and Dr. Baghli and Dr. Kennedy for their support and kindness during her last days.
